how I make a repeating pattern in procreate

the basics...

I had someone ask me a while back, how to knit and my response was, as it almost always is when I’m asked “HOW?” — “I don’t know how to do it; I just do it”. It might seem counterintuitive or like I’m dodging the question (and I always hope it doesn’t), but there are some things I truly don’t know HOW to do… I just do them. And I guess what I mean by that is, I don’t know what words to use to explain the steps of something that just comes naturally to me. There’s so many things, particularly art related, that are so second nature at this point, that when I have to stop and put words or steps to them, I just sputter out. This is challenging to me, too, as a teacher. I want so badly to share the things I know and get frustrated when my words fail me.

So I’ve been thinking a lot recently about my process with things— what things do I make that I CAN put words to? Do I have any processes with identifiable steps? Something I could teach a workshop on and leave feeling like I’d satisfied the requirement? And it occurred to me that I could definitely explain pattern making!
